(<DefinedTermFr>Loi</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963421" lims:id="963421" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>chemical group</DefinedTermEn> means an arrangement of bonded atoms that is a portion of a molecule and that possesses a name consisting of a non-composite radical term established in accordance with the chemical nomenclature rules of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry or the Chemical Abstracts Service; (<DefinedTermFr>groupe chimique</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963422" lims:id="963422" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>locant</DefinedTermEn> means a numeral or Greek or Roman letter used in the name of a substance to indicate the positions of unsaturated bonds or attachments of chemical groups in a molecule; (<DefinedTermFr>symbole indicateur de position</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963423" lims:id="963423" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>masked name</DefinedTermEn> means a name determined in accordance with section 3 that conceals the explicit chemical or biological name of a substance without misrepresenting the generic identity of the substance; (<DefinedTermFr>dénomination maquillée</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963424" lims:id="963424" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>multiplicative prefix</DefinedTermEn> means a prefix that describes the number of identical chemical groups in a chemical substance; (<DefinedTermFr>préfixe multiplicatif</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963425" lims:id="963425" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>non-descriptive term</DefinedTermEn> means a term used in the masked name of a substance, in place of a distinctive element of the explicit chemical or biological name, that does not misrepresent the generic identity of the substance; (<DefinedTermFr>terme non descriptif</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963426" lims:id="963426" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>parent structure</DefinedTermEn> means the principal chain or ring system from which an explicit chemical name or part of an explicit chemical name is derived. (<DefinedTermFr>structure parentale</DefinedTermFr>) </Text></Definition><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963428" lims:id="963428">SOR/2000-101, s. 6</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963429" lims:id="963429" level="1"><TitleText>Masking</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963430" lims:id="963430"><Label>3</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963431" lims:id="963431"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>For the purposes of sections 88 and 113 of the Act, the explicit chemical or biological name of a substance shall be masked by</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963432" lims:id="963432"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>replacing a single distinctive element of the name with a non-descriptive term;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963433" lims:id="963433"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>replacing each of two or more distinctive elements of the name with a non-descriptive term;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963434" lims:id="963434"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>removing the locants; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963435" lims:id="963435"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>removing the locants and replacing each of one or more other distinctive elements with a non-descriptive term.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963436" lims:id="963436"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The number of distinctive elements in an explicit chemical or biological name that are replaced or removed in accordance with subsection (1) shall not exceed the minimum number necessary to ensure confidentiality.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963437" lims:id="963437"><Label>(3)</Label><Text>For the purposes of subsection (2), the removal of a stereochemical indicator from an explicit chemical name does not constitute the removal of a distinctive element.</Text></Subsection><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963439" lims:id="963439">SOR/2000-101, s. 7</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963440" lims:id="963440" level="1"><TitleText>Explicit Chemical Name</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963441" lims:id="963441"><Label>4</Label><Text>Subject to section 6, where all or part of the explicit chemical name of a substance can be described with a structural diagram, any of the following is a single distinctive element of that name or part:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963442" lims:id="963442"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a locant;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963443" lims:id="963443"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a locant and multiplicative prefix that together specify the position and number of a chemical group;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963444" lims:id="963444"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the name of a chemical group;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963445" lims:id="963445"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>the name of the parent structure and the locant of a chemical group bonded to the parent structure; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963446" lims:id="963446"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>in the case of a salt, the name and multiplicative prefix of a single cation or anion of the salt.</Text></Paragraph><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963448" lims:id="963448">SOR/98-416, s. 1(E)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963449" lims:id="963449"><Label>5</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963450" lims:id="963450"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Subject to subsection (2) and section 6, where the explicit chemical name of a substance cannot be described with a structural diagram, either of the following is a single distinctive element of that name:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963451" lims:id="963451"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a constituent of the name that describes a complex mixture of a known class of chemicals including any substance that is recorded in the <Emphasis style="italic">Chemical Abstracts Chemical Substance Index</Emphasis> as an indefinite or general derivative of a specific chemical substance; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963452" lims:id="963452"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a constituent of the name that describes a complex mixture of an unknown class of chemicals including a substance that is recorded or is capable of being recorded in the <Emphasis style="italic">Chemical Abstracts General Subject Index</Emphasis> and can be named only by using descriptive or illustrative terms.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963453" lims:id="963453"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>For the purposes of subsection (1), where a part of the explicit chemical name can be described with a structural diagram, the masking of that part shall be carried out in accordance with section 4.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963454" lims:id="963454"><Label>6</Label><Text>Where a substance referred to in section 4 or 5 contains a chemical group that includes a carbon atom possessing more than a single valence, the name of the chemical group shall not be masked where the carbon atom is</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963455" lims:id="963455"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>attached directly to an acyclic carbon atom; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963456" lims:id="963456"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>included within a ring system.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963457" lims:id="963457"><Label>7</Label><Text>The name of a parent structure of a substance referred to in section 4 or 5 may be masked only by one of the following non-descriptive terms, as appropriate:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963458" lims:id="963458"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>alkyl or alkane;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963459" lims:id="963459"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>alkenyl or alkene;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963460" lims:id="963460"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>alkynyl or alkyne;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963461" lims:id="963461"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>carbomonocyclic or carbomonocycle;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963462" lims:id="963462"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>carbopolycyclic or carbopolycycle;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963463" lims:id="963463"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>heteromonocyclic or heteromonocycle; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963464" lims:id="963464"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>heteropolycyclic or heteropolycycle.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963465" lims:id="963465" level="1"><TitleText>Explicit Biological Name</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963466" lims:id="963466"><Label>8</Label><Text>Where all or any part of the name of a substance is an explicit biological name, any of the following is a single distinctive element of that explicit biological name:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963467" lims:id="963467"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the genus name;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963468" lims:id="963468"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the species name;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963469" lims:id="963469"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the strain name;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963470" lims:id="963470"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>the common biological name;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963471" lims:id="963471"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>the source;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963472" lims:id="963472"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>the culture history;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963473" lims:id="963473"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>the phenotypic or genotypic characteristics;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963474" lims:id="963474"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>the use; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="963475" lims:id="963475"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>any other pertinent descriptive information.</Text></Paragraph></Section></Body></Regulation>
