and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-04-23" lims:fid="919128" lims:id="919128"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>in respect of a terrestrial A.M. radio station, the area within a radius of 32 km from the principal studio of the station.</Text></Paragraph><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2014-04-23" lims:fid="919130" lims:id="919130">SOR/2004-33, s. 2; SOR/2014-80, s. 1</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919131" lims:id="919131" level="1"><TitleText>Local Signal and Distant Signal</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919132" lims:id="919132"><Label>2</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919133" lims:id="919133"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>For the purposes of subsection 31(2) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="C-42">Copyright Act</XRefExternal>, <DefinedTermEn>local signal</DefinedTermEn> means one of the following:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919134" lims:id="919134"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>in respect of the entire service area of a cable retransmitter, the signal of a terrestrial radio or television station the area of transmission of which covers all of that area; Radio Stations and the Predicted Grade B Contour of Terrestrial Television Stations</TitleText></ScheduleFormHeading><RegulationPiece lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919142" lims:id="919142"><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919143" lims:id="919143" level="1"><TitleText>Height of Antenna Above Average Terrain (Haat)</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919144" lims:id="919144"><Label>1</Label><Text>The height of an antenna above average terrain shall be determined on a topographical map by</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919145" lims:id="919145"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>marking the transmitting site on the map, using the geographical coordinates of the site;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919146" lims:id="919146"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>drawing two concentric circles with radii of 3 km and 16 km, respectively, from the transmitting site marked under paragraph (a);</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919147" lims:id="919147"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>starting at true north, drawing eight radials from the transmitting site at intervals of 45°;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919148" lims:id="919148"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>drawing, for each radial, a profile graph for the segment of terrain between 3 km and 16 km from the transmitting site, with the eight profile graphs plotted separately on rectangular coordinate paper, the distance in kilometres as the abscissa and the elevation in metres above mean sea level as the ordinate and reflecting the topography of the terrain;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919149" lims:id="919149"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>obtaining the average elevation of the terrain above mean sea level for each segment of terrain between 3 km and 16 km from the transmitting site by</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919150" lims:id="919150"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>using a planimeter,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919151" lims:id="919151"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>dividing the segment in equal sectors and averaging their respective median elevations, or</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919152" lims:id="919152"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>averaging the elevations at a sufficient number of equally spaced points to provide a representation of the terrain; and</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919153" lims:id="919153"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>obtaining the HAAT for each radial by subtracting the average terrain elevation calculated in accordance with paragraph (e) from the height above sea level of the centre of radiation of the antenna.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919154" lims:id="919154" level="1"><TitleText>Predicted Contours</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919155" lims:id="919155"><Label>2</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919156" lims:id="919156"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>For F.M. radio stations, the predicted contour is defined by a field strength of 0.5 mV/m.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919157" lims:id="919157"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>For television stations, depending on the channel involved, the predicted Grade B contour is defined by the following field strength:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919158" lims:id="919158"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>47 dB above 1 µV/m for channels 2 to 6;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919159" lims:id="919159"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>56 dB above 1 µV/m for channels 7 to 13;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919160" lims:id="919160"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>64 dB above 1 µV/m for channels 14 to 69.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919161" lims:id="919161"><Label>(3)</Label><Text>The HAAT determined in accordance with section 1 shall be ascertained for each radial and the effective radiated power (ERP) shall be ascertained in the plane of maximum radiation (in the case of directional antennas, the ERP value in the direction of each radial shall be used).</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919162" lims:id="919162"><Label>(4)</Label><Text>The appropriate F(50,50) propagation curves (Tables I to III) shall be used with the HAAT and the ERP ascertained in accordance with subsection (3) to determine the distance from the transmitting site to the contour point on each radial.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919163" lims:id="919163"><Label>(5)</Label><Text>The contour points determined under subsection (4) shall be joined by a smooth curve to obtain the contour.</Text><Provision lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919164" lims:id="919164" first-line-indent="0" subsequent-line-indent="3" pointsize="10" list-item="yes" language-align="no"><Label>Note:</Label><Text>The 40 dB line is the reference line for an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1 kW.</Text></Provision><ImageGroup lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919165" lims:id="919165" bilingual="yes" position="center" width="40pc" spanlanguages="no" spanmarginalnotecol="no"><AlternateText>Table I Estimated field strength exceeded at 50 % of the potential receiver locations for at least 50 % of the time at a receiving antenna height of 9.1 metres for channels 2-6 and FM.</AlternateText><Image source="SOR-89-254img\SOR-89-254_ef001.png" /></ImageGroup><ImageGroup lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919166" lims:id="919166" bilingual="yes" position="center" width="40pc" spanlanguages="no" spanmarginalnotecol="no"><AlternateText>Table II Estimated field strength exceeded at 50 % of the potential receiver locations for at least 50 % of the time at a receiving antenna height of 9.1 metres for channels 7-13.</AlternateText><Image source="SOR-89-254img\SOR-89-254_ef003.png" /></ImageGroup><ImageGroup lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919167" lims:id="919167" bilingual="yes" position="center" width="40pc" spanlanguages="no" spanmarginalnotecol="no"><AlternateText>Table III Estimated field strength exceeded at 50 % of the potential receiver locations for at least 50 % of the time at a receiving antenna height of 9.1 metres for channels 14-69.</AlternateText><Image source="SOR-89-254img\SOR-89-254_ef005.png" /></ImageGroup></Subsection></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="919169" lims:id="919169">SOR/2004-33, s. 3</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Schedule></Regulation>
