alarm. (<DefinedTermFr>signal d’alarme-incendie</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767888" lims:id="767888" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>fishing vessel</DefinedTermEn> has the same meaning as in subsection 1(1) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2007-115">Marine Personnel Regulations</XRefExternal>. (<DefinedTermFr>bâtiment de pêche</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767889" lims:id="767889" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>marine evacuation system</DefinedTermEn> means an appliance for the rapid transfer of persons from the embarkation deck of a vessel to a floating survival craft. (<DefinedTermFr>dispositif d’évacuation en mer</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2021-06-23" lims:enacted-date="2021-06-10" lims:fid="767891" lims:id="1300722"><Text><DefinedTermEn>near coastal voyage, Class 1</DefinedTermEn> has the same meaning as in section <XRefInternal>1</XRefInternal> of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2021-135">Vessel Safety Certificates Regulations</XRefExternal>. (<DefinedTermFr>voyage à proximité du littoral, classe 1</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition voyage</DefinedTermEn> has the same meaning as in section <XRefInternal>1</XRefInternal> of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2021-135">Vessel Safety Certificates Regulations</XRefExternal>. (<DefinedTermFr>voyage en eaux abritées</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2023-12-20" lims:enacted-date="2023-12-04" platform or any other vessel capable of sustaining the lives of persons in distress from the time of abandoning the vessel on which those persons were carried. (<DefinedTermFr>bateau de certificate under section <XRefInternal>12</XRefInternal> of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2021-135">Vessel Safety Certificates Regulations</XRefExternal>.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767902" lims:id="767902"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767903" lims:id="767903">Exceptions</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>These Regulations do not apply in respect of</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767904" lims:id="767904"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>fishing vessels of 150 gross tonnage or less;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767905" lims:id="767905"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>cable ferries; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767906" lims:id="767906"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>vessels of 15 lims:id="767907" level="1"><TitleText>Emergency Information</TitleText></Heading><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767908" lims:id="767908" level="2"><TitleText>General</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767909" lims:id="767909"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767910" lims:id="767910">Muster lists</MarginalNote><Label>3</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767911" lims:id="767911"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Subject to section <XRefInternal>4</XRefInternal>, the master of a vessel shall ensure that, at all times, there is a muster list and, in the case of a vessel that is equipped with rescue boats, a rescue boat muster list.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767912" lims:id="767912"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767913" lims:id="767913">Posting</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The master of the vessel shall ensure that the lists required under subsection (1)</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767914" lims:id="767914"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>are drawn up in either or both official languages, according to the needs of the crew; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767915" lims:id="767915"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>are conspicuously posted throughout the vessel, including the navigation bridge, the engine room and the crew accommodations.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767916" lims:id="767916"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767917" lims:id="767917">Separate document</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>The rescue boat muster list may be a document separate from the muster list or an addendum to it.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767918" lims:id="767918"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767919" lims:id="767919">Exception</MarginalNote><Label>4</Label><Text>The master of a vessel who has a means of informing crew members of the essential actions to be taken during an emergency is not required to ensure that there is a muster list or a rescue boat muster list if the vessel</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767920" lims:id="767920"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>has a crew of fewer than three members and carries passengers; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767921" lims:id="767921"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>has a crew of fewer than five members and does not carry passengers.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767922" lims:id="767922"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767923" lims:id="767923">Illustrations and instructions</MarginalNote><Label>5</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767924" lims:id="767924"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall, before the vessel embarks on a voyage, prepare and post illustrations and instructions that inform passengers of</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767925" lims:id="767925"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the alarm signals used to indicate emergencies;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767926" lims:id="767926"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the essential actions to be taken during an emergency;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767927" lims:id="767927"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the location of their designated muster stations; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767928" lims:id="767928"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>the method of correctly donning a lifejacket.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767929" lims:id="767929"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767930" lims:id="767930">Posting</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The master of the vessel shall ensure that the illustrations and instructions required under subsection (1)</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767931" lims:id="767931"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>are drawn up in both official languages; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767932" lims:id="767932"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>are conspicuously posted in passenger staterooms, at muster stations and in other passenger spaces.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767933" lims:id="767933"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767934" lims:id="767934">Updated information</MarginalNote><Label>6</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767935" lims:id="767935"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>ensure that any information that is posted on board the vessel in accordance with these Regulations is kept up to date and is legible; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767936" lims:id="767936"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>revise or replace the muster list or rescue boat muster list if there is a change in the crew of the vessel.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767937" lims:id="767937" level="2"><TitleText>Muster List</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:lastAmendedDate="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767938" lims:id="767938"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767939" lims:id="767939">Contents</MarginalNote><Label>7</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767940" lims:id="767940"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that a muster list contains the following information:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767941" lims:id="767941"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a description of the general emergency alarm signal, the fire alarm signal and, if the vessel has one, the public address system;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767942" lims:id="767942"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a description of how the order to abandon ship is given;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767943" lims:id="767943"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>an indication of the station at which each crew member is to report when the general emergency alarm signal or the fire alarm signal is sounded;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767944" lims:id="767944"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>a description of the specific duties assigned to each crew member and to be performed by the crew member when the general emergency alarm signal or the fire alarm signal is sounded, including</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767945" lims:id="767945"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>closing the watertight doors, fire doors, valves, scuppers, side scuttles, skylights, portholes and other similar openings in the vessel,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767946" lims:id="767946"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>equipping the survival craft and the other life saving appliances,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767947" lims:id="767947"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>ensuring that the radio life saving equipment is placed on board the appropriate survival craft,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767948" lims:id="767948"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>preparing and launching the survival craft,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767949" lims:id="767949"><Label>(v)</Label><Text>generally preparing the other life saving appliances,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767950" lims:id="767950"><Label>(vi)</Label><Text>mustering the passengers,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767951" lims:id="767951"><Label>(vii)</Label><Text>using the radiocommunication equipment,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767952" lims:id="767952"><Label>(viii)</Label><Text>performing the duties of fire parties, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767953" lims:id="767953"><Label>(ix)</Label><Text>performing any special duties assigned in respect of the use of the fire fighting equipment and installations;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767954" lims:id="767954"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>the substitutes for key persons who may become disabled;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767955" lims:id="767955"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>the crew member responsible for each survival craft and, if applicable, that member’s second-in-command;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767956" lims:id="767956"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>the crew member assigned as principal communicator in accordance with section 267 of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2007-115">Marine Personnel Regulations</XRefExternal>; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767957" lims:id="767957"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>the crew members who are assigned to ensure that the life saving appliances and fire fighting equipment and installations are maintained in good condition and are ready for immediate use.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767958" lims:id="767958"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767959" lims:id="767959">Additional contents</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries passengers shall ensure that, in addition to the information set out in subsection (1), the muster list contains the following information:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767960" lims:id="767960"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a list of the actions to be taken by the passengers when the general emergency alarm signal or the fire alarm signal is sounded; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767961" lims:id="767961"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a description of the duties assigned to crew members and to be performed by them in relation to the passengers during an emergency, including</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767962" lims:id="767962"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>warning the passengers of the emergency,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767963" lims:id="767963"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>ensuring that the passengers are adequately dressed for protection against exposure and have donned their lifejackets correctly,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767964" lims:id="767964"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>assembling the passengers at their designated muster stations,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767965" lims:id="767965"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing passengers who are trapped in their staterooms or who are otherwise unaccounted for during an emergency,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767966" lims:id="767966"><Label>(v)</Label><Text>keeping order in the passageways and on the stairways and generally controlling the movements of passengers, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767967" lims:id="767967"><Label>(vi)</Label><Text>ensuring that a supply of blankets is taken to the survival craft.</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Subsection><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2013-12-06" lims:fid="767969" lims:id="767969">SOR/2013-235, s. lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767971" lims:id="767971">Additional requirements</MarginalNote><Label>8</Label><Text>In preparing a muster list, the master of a vessel shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767972" lims:id="767972"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>ensure that the number of certificated persons required to be on board and employed for each survival craft under Division 2 of Part 2 of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2007-115">Marine Personnel Regulations</XRefExternal> are assigned to that survival craft;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767973" lims:id="767973"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>ensure that each available certificated person is assigned duties in connection with the preparation and launching of survival craft;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767974" lims:id="767974"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>in assigning members of the vessel’s crew to the crews of the survival craft, ensure an equitable distribution of certificated persons, deck officers and persons trained to assist others;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767975" lims:id="767975"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>if the vessel carries motorized survival craft, ensure that a person capable of operating the motor and carrying out minor adjustments to it is assigned to each motorized survival craft; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767976" lims:id="767976"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>in selecting substitutes for key persons in case those persons become disabled, take into account that different emergencies may call for different actions.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767977" lims:id="767977" level="2"><TitleText>Rescue Boat Muster List</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767978" lims:id="767978"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767979" lims:id="767979">Contents</MarginalNote><Label>9</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767980" lims:id="767980"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that a rescue boat muster list contains the following information:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767981" lims:id="767981"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a description of the signal that will be sounded to muster the rescue boat crew to its designated position;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767983" lims:id="767983"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the duties to be performed by each member of the rescue boat crew when that signal is sounded.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767984" lims:id="767984"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767985" lims:id="767985">Certificated persons</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>In preparing a rescue boat muster list, the master of the vessel shall ensure that the number of certificated persons required to be on board and employed for each rescue boat under section 209 of the <XRefExternal reference-type="regulation" link="SOR-2007-115">Marine Personnel Regulations</XRefExternal> are assigned to that rescue boat.</Text></Subsection></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767986" lims:id="767986" level="1"><TitleText>Measures Respecting Vessels that Carry Passengers</TitleText></Heading><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767987" lims:id="767987" level="2"><TitleText>Passenger Count and Details</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767988" lims:id="767988"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767989" lims:id="767989">Passenger count</MarginalNote><Label>10</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries passengers shall, before the vessel embarks on a voyage, ensure that the need for special care or assistance during an emergency.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767992" lims:fid="767994" lims:id="767994"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries passengers shall, before the vessel embarks on one of the following voyages, ensure that the name and gender of each person on board the vessel are recorded in a way that distinguishes between adults, children and infants:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767995" lims:id="767995"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>an unlimited voyage or a near coastal voyage, Class 1;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767996" lims:id="767996"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a voyage longer than 12 hours; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767997" lims:id="767997"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>a voyage on which there is at least one assigned passenger berth.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767998" lims:id="767998"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="767999" lims:id="767999">Records</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The master of the vessel shall ensure that information recorded under this section is</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768000" lims:id="768000"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>kept on shore in a manner that disclosed only for search and rescue purposes.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768004" lims:id="768004"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768005" lims:id="768005">Definitions</MarginalNote><Label>(4)</Label><Text>The following definitions apply in subsection (1).</Text><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768006" lims:id="768006" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>adult</DefinedTermEn> means a person who is 12 years of age or procedures are in place for locating and rescuing passengers who are trapped in their staterooms or who are otherwise unaccounted for during an emergency.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768011" lims:id="768011" level="2"><TitleText>Practice Musters and Safety Briefings</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768012" lims:id="768012"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768013" lims:id="768013">Practice muster</MarginalNote><Label>13</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768014" lims:id="768014"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>If passengers are scheduled to be on board a vessel for more than 24 hours, the master of the vessel shall ensure that a practice muster of the passengers and crew is held as soon as practicable but not later than 24 hours after the passengers embark.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768015" lims:id="768015"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768016" lims:id="768016">Safety briefing</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>If passengers are scheduled to be on board a vessel for 24 hours or less and a practice muster is not held, the master of the vessel shall ensure that, immediately before or after the vessel embarks on a voyage, a safety briefing is given to the passengers informing them of the safety and emergency procedures that are relevant to the type and size of the vessel.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768017" lims:id="768017"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768018" lims:id="768018">Requirements</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel referred to in subsection (2) shall ensure that the safety briefing</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768019" lims:id="768019"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>informs the passengers of the essential actions they must take during an emergency;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768020" lims:id="768020"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>specifies the location of lifejackets, survival craft and muster stations;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768021" lims:id="768021"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>informs the passengers in each area of the vessel of the location of the lifejackets and survival craft that are closest to them;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768022" lims:id="768022"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>instructs the passengers in the donning and use of their lifejackets;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768023" lims:id="768023"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>is given in either or both official languages, according to the needs of the passengers;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768024" lims:id="768024"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>is given on the vessel’s public address system if the vessel has one; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768025" lims:id="768025"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>is given in a way that is likely to be understood by the passengers.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768026" lims:id="768026"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768027" lims:id="768027">New passengers</MarginalNote><Label>(4)</Label><Text>If new passengers embark after a practice muster has been held on a vessel, the master of the vessel is not required to hold another practice muster if a safety briefing that meets the requirements of subsection (3) is given to the new passengers before the vessel continues on its voyage.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768028" lims:id="768028"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768029" lims:id="768029">Duties of crew</MarginalNote><Label>14</Label><Text>During a practice muster of passengers and crew, the crew members shall perform the duties assigned to them, including</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768030" lims:id="768030"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>summoning the passengers to their designated muster stations;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768031" lims:id="768031"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>keeping order in passageways and on stairways and generally controlling the movements of the passengers as they proceed to their designated muster stations;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768032" lims:id="768032"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>assembling the passengers at their designated muster stations and ensuring that they are all accounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768033" lims:id="768033"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing passengers who are trapped in their staterooms or who are otherwise unaccounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768034" lims:id="768034"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>instructing the passengers in dressing adequately for protection against exposure and in the donning and use of their lifejackets;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768035" lims:id="768035"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>ensuring that the passengers have donned their lifejackets correctly;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768036" lims:id="768036"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>ensuring that the passengers are made aware of how the order to abandon ship is given; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768037" lims:id="768037"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>instructing the passengers in the actions that they must take during an emergency, including how to enter marine evacuation systems at the embarkation stations and board survival craft.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768038" lims:id="768038" level="2"><TitleText>Means of Exit</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768039" lims:id="768039"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768040" lims:id="768040">Means of exit</MarginalNote><Label>15</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768041" lims:id="768041"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries passengers and is made fast at a dock for a purpose other than embarking or disembarking passengers shall, if there are passengers on board, ensure that the vessel is provided with more than one means of exit from the vessel.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768042" lims:id="768042"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768043" lims:id="768043">Conditions</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The means of exit shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768044" lims:id="768044"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>gangways with means of access from the various decks in the vessel; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768045" lims:id="768045"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>other means of escape that allow the passengers to reach places of safety during an emergency if the vessel’s conditions of operation do not permit the use of more than one gangway.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768046" lims:id="768046" level="1"><TitleText>Drills</TitleText></Heading><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768047" lims:id="768047" level="2"><TitleText>General</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768048" lims:id="768048"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768049" lims:id="768049">Notification</MarginalNote><Label>16</Label><Text>Before sounding a signal for the commencement of a drill, the master of a vessel shall ensure that all passengers are notified, in either or both official languages, according to their needs, that a drill will be held and that there is no actual emergency.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768050" lims:id="768050"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768051" lims:id="768051">Manner of carrying out</MarginalNote><Label>17</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that drills, in so far as is feasible, are carried out as if there were an actual emergency.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768052" lims:id="768052"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768053" lims:id="768053">Equipment and installations</MarginalNote><Label>18</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that any equipment or installations used during a drill are immediately returned to their full operational condition and are ready for immediate reuse, and that any faults or defects discovered in equipment or installations during a drill are remedied as soon as practicable.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768054" lims:id="768054"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768055" lims:id="768055">Reporting to stations</MarginalNote><Label>19</Label><Text>Unless otherwise instructed in a notification referred to in section <XRefInternal>16</XRefInternal>, if the general emergency alarm signal or the fire alarm signal is sounded, the passengers, if any, shall proceed to their designated muster stations and the crew members shall report to their designated muster stations and prepare to perform their assigned duties as described in the muster list.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768056" lims:id="768056" level="2"><TitleText>Obligation to Hold and to Participate in Drills</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768057" lims:id="768057"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768058" lims:id="768058">Intervals</MarginalNote><Label>20</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768059" lims:id="768059"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel described in column 1 of the schedule that is on a voyage described in column 2 shall ensure that a fire drill and a survival craft drill are held on board the vessel at least once during each period set out in column 3.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768060" lims:id="768060"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768061" lims:id="768061">Fire drills</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The master of the vessel shall ensure that a fire drill for the crew of the vessel is held within 24 hours after the vessel embarks on a voyage if more than 25% of the crew did not participate in a fire drill on board the vessel during the month before the vessel embarks.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768062" lims:id="768062"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768063" lims:id="768063">Survival craft drills</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>The master of the vessel shall ensure that a survival craft drill for the crew of the vessel is held within 24 hours after the vessel embarks on a voyage if more than 25% of the crew did not participate in a survival craft drill on board the vessel during the month before the vessel embarks.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768064" lims:id="768064"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768065" lims:id="768065">Crew participation</MarginalNote><Label>21</Label><Text>Every member of the crew of a vessel shall participate in at least one fire drill and one survival craft drill every month.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768066" lims:id="768066"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768067" lims:id="768067">Additional drills</MarginalNote><Label>22</Label><Text>In addition to the drills required under section <XRefInternal>20</XRefInternal>, the master of a vessel shall ensure that enough fire drills and survival craft drills for the crew of the vessel are held to ensure that the entire crew is at all times competent and operationally ready to respond to the emergencies addressed by the drills.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768068" lims:id="768068" level="2"><TitleText>Fire Drills</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768069" lims:id="768069"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768070" lims:id="768070">Considerations</MarginalNote><Label>23</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that fire drills are planned in such a way that due consideration is given to the practice followed in the various emergencies that could occur, depending on the type of vessel and its cargo.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768071" lims:id="768071"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768072" lims:id="768072">Crew duties</MarginalNote><Label>24</Label><Text>During a fire drill, the master of a vessel shall ensure that the crew members perform the duties assigned to them in connection with the fire drill, including</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768073" lims:id="768073"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>mustering the passengers, if any;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768074" lims:id="768074"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing passengers, if any, who are trapped in their staterooms or who are otherwise unaccounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768075" lims:id="768075"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing crew members who are trapped in their accommodations or who are otherwise unaccounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768076" lims:id="768076"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>checking the operation of the fire doors, fire dampers and main inlets and outlets of the ventilation systems;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768077" lims:id="768077"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>closing the fire doors, valves, scuppers, side scuttles, skylights, portholes and other similar openings in the vessel;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768078" lims:id="768078"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>inspecting and operating the fire pump or, if the vessel has one, the emergency fire pump using at least two jets of water in order to ensure that the system is in proper working order;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768079" lims:id="768079"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>inspecting the fire fighting equipment that is fitted or carried on the vessel, other than the fire fighting equipment referred to in paragraph (f), including</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768080" lims:id="768080"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>fire fighters’ outfits and other personal rescue equipment,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768081" lims:id="768081"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>the sprinkler systems,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768082" lims:id="768082"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>the fire alarm systems,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768083" lims:id="768083"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>the fire detection system, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768084" lims:id="768084"><Label>(v)</Label><Text>the fire hoses and hydrants;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768085" lims:id="768085"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>inspecting and testing the relevant communications equipment, including the public address systems, alarm systems and klaxons;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768086" lims:id="768086"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>inspecting and testing the emergency lighting and power systems;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768087" lims:id="768087"><Label>(j)</Label><Text>preparing the survival craft and their equipment; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768088" lims:id="768088"><Label>(k)</Label><Text>checking the necessary arrangements for a subsequent abandonment of the lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768090" lims:id="768090"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768091" lims:id="768091">Crew lists and duties</MarginalNote><Label>25</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768092" lims:id="768092"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Before a survival craft drill is held, the person in charge of a survival craft and his or her second-in-command shall each have a list of the survival craft crew members, and the person in charge shall ensure that the crew members know what their duties are.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768093" lims:id="768093"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768094" lims:id="768094">Crew duties</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>During a survival craft drill, the master of a vessel shall ensure that the crew members perform the duties assigned to them in connection with the survival craft drill, including</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768095" lims:id="768095"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>mustering the passengers, if any;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768096" lims:id="768096"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing passengers, if any, who are trapped in their staterooms or who are otherwise unaccounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768097" lims:id="768097"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>locating and rescuing crew members who are trapped in their accommodations or who are otherwise unaccounted for;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768098" lims:id="768098"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>preparing for the launching of the survival craft and ensuring that the equipment and supplies, including a supply of blankets, that are required to be carried in the survival craft are in place and properly stowed;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768099" lims:id="768099"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>inspecting and, if practicable, testing the radio life saving equipment that is required to be carried in the survival craft;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768100" lims:id="768100"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>operating the davits used for launching life rafts;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768101" lims:id="768101"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>if the vessel carries motor lifeboats, starting and operating the lifeboat motors and verifying that the fuel tanks are filled to capacity;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768102" lims:id="768102"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>if the vessel carries survival craft other than lifeboats, participating in instruction in the operation and deployment of those survival craft;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768103" lims:id="768103"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>if the vessel is fitted with a marine evacuation system, carrying out the procedures required for the deployment of the system up to the point immediately preceding its actual deployment;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768104" lims:id="768104"><Label>(j)</Label><Text>testing the emergency lighting for the mustering of passengers and crew and for the abandonment of the vessel; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768105" lims:id="768105"><Label>(k)</Label><Text>inspecting and testing the life saving appliances that are fitted or carried on the vessel, other than those referred to in paragraph (e) or (j) or in section <XRefInternal>30</XRefInternal>.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768106" lims:id="768106"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768107" lims:id="768107">Donning of suits</MarginalNote><Label>26</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that the crew members are capable of donning the immersion suits or marine anti-exposure suits that are carried on the vessel.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768108" lims:id="768108"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768109" lims:id="768109">Lifeboats</MarginalNote><Label>27</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768110" lims:id="768110"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries more than one lifeboat shall ensure that a different lifeboat is launched by the assigned crew during each survival craft drill. However, subject to subsection (2) and sections <XRefInternal>28</XRefInternal> and <XRefInternal>29</XRefInternal>, the master shall also ensure that each lifeboat on the vessel — including a lifeboat that is a rescue boat — is launched and manoeuvred in the water, by the assigned crew, at least once every three months during a survival craft drill.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768111" lims:id="768111"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768112" lims:id="768112">Vessel at sea</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>When the vessel is at sea, the launching and manoeuvring of a lifeboat during a drill referred to in subsection (1) may be replaced by the clearing and swinging out of one or more lifeboats if</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768113" lims:id="768113"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>each lifeboat is cleared and swung out at least once every month; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768114" lims:id="768114"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>each lifeboat is launched and manoeuvred in the water, by the assigned crew, at least once every three months.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768115" lims:id="768115"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768116" lims:id="768116">Vessel under way</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>When the vessel is under way, the master of the vessel shall ensure that the launching and manoeuvring referred to in paragraph (2)(b) are carried out in sheltered waters and under the supervision of an officer experienced in launchings and manoeuvrings while a vessel is under way.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768117" lims:id="768117"><MarginalNote lifeboats.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768123" lims:id="768123"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768124" lims:id="768124">Additional steps</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>Once the crew members have commenced the launch procedure referred to in paragraph (1)(c), the master of the vessel shall ensure subsection <XRefInternal>28</XRefInternal>(2), the master of a vessel that carries free-fall lifeboats shall ensure that at least once every six months, during a survival craft drill, either</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768131" lims:id="768131"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the lifeboats are free-fall launched with only the operating crew on board; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768132" lims:id="768132"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a simulated launching of the lifeboats is carried out in accordance with the <XRefExternal reference-type="standard">Guidelines for Simulated Launching of Free-Fall Lifeboats</XRefExternal>, the Appendix to Annex 2 of MSC.1/Circ. 1206, <XRefExternal reference-type="standard">Measures to Prevent Accidents with Lifeboats</XRefExternal>, published by the International Maritime Organization on May 26, 2006, as amended from time to time.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768133" lims:id="768133"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768134" lims:id="768134">Fire-protected lifeboats</MarginalNote><Label>30</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that carries fire-protected lifeboats shall ensure that the water spray system and the self-contained air supply for those lifeboats are tested at least once every six months during a survival craft drill.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768135" lims:id="768135" level="2"><TitleText>Rescue Boat Drills</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768136" lims:id="768136"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768137" lims:id="768137">Intervals</MarginalNote><Label>31</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768138" lims:id="768138"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master of a vessel that is equipped with rescue boats that are not lifeboats shall ensure that a rescue boat drill is held, separately from any other drill, at least once every month.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768139" lims:id="768139"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768140" lims:id="768140">Crew on board</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>During a rescue boat drill, the members of the crew of each rescue boat shall launch and manoeuvre the rescue boat in the water.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768141" lims:id="768141"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768142" lims:id="768142">Vessel under way</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>When the vessel is under way, the master of the vessel shall ensure that, during a rescue boat drill, the launching and manoeuvring of a rescue boat are carried out in sheltered waters and under the supervision of an officer experienced in launchings and manoeuvrings while a vessel is under way.</Text></Subsection></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768143" lims:id="768143" level="2"><TitleText>Watertight Doors</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768144" lims:id="768144"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768145" lims:id="768145">Intervals</MarginalNote><Label>32</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that a drill for the operation of watertight doors is held at the same time as each fire drill and each survival craft drill.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768146" lims:id="768146"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768147" lims:id="768147">Inspections</MarginalNote><Label>33</Label><Text>The master of a vessel shall ensure that the following, if fitted, are inspected at least once a week:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768148" lims:id="768148"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the watertight doors and all of the mechanisms and indicators of those doors; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768149" lims:id="768149"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>all of the valves</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768150" lims:id="768150"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>the closing of which is necessary to make a compartment watertight, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768151" lims:id="768151"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>the operation of which is necessary for damage control cross-connections.</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768152" lims:id="768152"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768153" lims:id="768153">Voyage that exceeds one week</MarginalNote><Label>34</Label><Text>The master of a vessel referred to in item 1, 2 or 3 of the schedule that is to embark on a voyage of more than one week in duration shall ensure that a drill referred to in section <XRefInternal>32</XRefInternal> is also held before the vessel embarks on the doors, whether hinged or power-operated, in the main transverse bulkheads, in use at sea, are operated daily.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" drill;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768166" lims:id="768166"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>the time of the opening or closing of any watertight door that may be required to be opened at sea for the working of the vessel;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768167" lims:id="768167"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>a detailed report of each drill for the operation of watertight doors, of each inspection of watertight doors or any other appliances referred to in section <XRefInternal>33</XRefInternal>, and of any defects discovered;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768168" lims:id="768168"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>if a muster or drill required by these Regulations is not held, or is held only in part, a report of the circumstances and the extent of the muster or drill, and the reason why the muster or drill was not held or was held only in part; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2010-04-22" lims:fid="768169" lims:id="768169"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>an evaluation of the competency and operational readiness of the entire
