Whereas the Security Council of the United Nations has received and approved the report of the Secretary General of the United Nations on the holding of a referendum for self-determination of the people in Western Sahara;Whereas the Security Council of the United Nations, by Resolution 690 of April 29, 1991, established a United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara;And Whereas it appears advisable that Canada participate in that Mission;Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Defence, pursuant to paragraph 31(1)(b)* of the National Defence Act, is pleased hereby to place on active service beyond Canada thoseR.S., c. 31 (1st Supp.), s. 60 (Sch. I, item 14)officers and non-commissioned members of the regular force of the Canadian forces, andofficers and non-commissioned members of the reserve force of the Canadian Forceswho are part of, or serve in immediate support of, the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara.
