Passenger Ships

2In these Regulations,Act means the Canada Shipping Act; (Loi)Administration, in respect of a ship’s equipment, means the Government of the State whose flag the ship is entitled to fly; (Administration)certificate means any certificate issued pursuant to section 318 or 319 of the Act; (certificat)first inspection includes all inspections of a ship made by an inspector prior to the issuance of the first certificate in respect of that ship; (première inspection)inspector means a steamship inspector appointed under the Act; (inspecteur)length means(a)in the case of a ship that is registered under the Act or required by the Act to be registered,(i)the distance from the fore part of the uppermost end of the stem to the aft side of the head of the stern post, except that if a stern post is not fitted to the ship the measurement shall be taken to the foreside of the head of the rudder stock,(ii)if the ship has no rudder stock or has a rudder stock situated outside of the hull at the stern, the distance from the foreside of the foremost permanent structure to the aft side of the aftermost permanent structure of the ship not including guards or rubbing strakes, or(iii)if the ship is double-ended, the distance from the aft side of the forward rudder stock to the foreside of the after rudder stock, and(b)in the case of a ship other than a ship described in paragraph (a), the horizontal distance measured between perpendiculars erected at the extreme ends of the outside of the hull; (longueur)non-Canadian ship means a ship registered elsewhere than in Canada; (navire non canadien)Safety Convention Certificate means a certificate issued under the provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974. 14(1)Subject to subsection (2), where the inspection of a ship that is subject to the Coasting Trade Act is requested for the issuance of a letter of compliance, the fee payable is(a)for the first inspection, the amount specified in section 10 for that ship; and(b)for a periodical inspection or partial inspection, the fee specified in section 11 or 12 for that ship.(2)Where a ship is authorized to operate in the coasting trade and is in full compliance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Conventions to which Canada is a signatory and its period of operation is seven days or less, the fee prescribed in paragraph (1)(a) or (b) is reduced by 90 per cent.SOR/97-486, s. 9

15(1)Subject to subsections (2) and (3), where inspection of a non-Canadian ship is requested for the purpose of obtaining a Safety Convention Certificate, the fee is as specified in section 11 for that ship.(2)Subject to subsection (3), where inspection of the life saving equipment, fire extinguishing equipment, lights and sound signals of a non-Canadian ship is requested for the purpose of obtaining a Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate only, the fee for that inspection is(a)for a ship not over 1,600 tons, gross tonnage $1,000(b)for a ship over 1,600 but not over 3,000 tons, gross tonnage 1,500(c)for a ship over 3,000 tons, gross tonnage 2,000(3)Where an inspection referred to in subsection (1) or (2) is made concurrently with an inspection referred to in section 14, no fee shall be charged for the inspection referred to in this section.SI/82-62, s. 6; SI/83-73, s. 6; SOR/84-606, s. 6; SOR/85-1024, s. 6; SOR/94-338, s. 6; SOR/95-267, s. 6
